More years ago than I’d care to say, I was sitting with some friends watching actual music videos on MTV (that should tell you how long ago…). The Stone Roses came on with their video for “I Wanna Be Adored“, and all I could think was “What the fuck is this, and who do these [...]

Continuing from Part 1, this is a purge of useless, yet enjoyable knowledge that is my music biography collection… Elliott Smith & The Big Nothing is a must read. Again, we unfortunately know how the story ends, but this book helps us to understand why it ended the way it did. What more can I [...]

Yesterday i was browsing my own bookshelves, thinking about clearing some space and began reminiscing about some of my beloved music biographies. Before i clear out some space on my shelf, i thought i’d clear out some space in my brain and post a little something about each book… The most recently read of the [...]

Back in 1993 I was living in Las Vegas and trying to make it as a rockstar. Yes, really. I was the drummer for local stars Secret Sanity, and we worked harder than any band i’ve been in, before or since! We’d rehearse 5 days a week, play shows every weekend and constantly write & [...]

Robyn Hitchcock has been around longer than most of the stuff you listen to, and there’s a reason for that; he’s fantastic! For a limited time, you can head over to his site and download 2 tracks from his new project The Hungry Moment, which is a ‘psyche & western’ group he’s started with Abigail [...]

When i was 15 i picked up the cassette of The Secret Policeman’s 3rd Ball. I was a huge Duran Duran fan back then (still am) and i’d read in Rolling Stone about the boys performing at a charity concert for human rights and Amnesty International. Later that year, i was in the record store [...]

I read on NME today that indie God Morrissey has selected his all-time favorite 13 albums for Friday The 13th! Since there are more than a couple i’ve not heard, I’ve decided to post some vids to visualtrack his picks, just to turn us all on… Here is the list: Jobriath – ‘Jobriath’ Jeff Buckley [...]
Why? Because this was my first ever record, that’s why. I was 6 years old, and 6 year olds love Rock ‘N’ Roll Clowns, right? Actually, i’d had no idea who they were till my sister Dora bought the KISS comic book. I was all like, “who the fuck is this?”. Well, i didn’t quite [...]
Something That Means Something: Lush “Spooky”

In 1992 Lush played The Palace in Hollywood (now The Avalon Hollywood), and some friends and I made the trip over. Back then, all the shoegaze bands played The Palace and did signings at the late-great Aron’s Records. We headed down, but i refused to wait in line. However, i did hang around hoping Emma would see how great looking i was and come over and introduce herself. If that’s sounds cringe-worthy, i also stood in front of her at the show trying to grab her attention! You know what? I was surrounded by hundreds of other smelly 20-somethings trying the same thing. Embarrassing. I realized that night how ridiculous I was and killed my infatuation right then and there. However, the music still sounds great!
